Note
Veterano de la 1a Guerra Mundial, fue promovido a Coronel de Infantería. Regresó al sevicio activo en 1941, con el 26 Reg de Infantería de la 1a División. Como Brigadier General prestó servicio en África al mando de su regimiento en Oran. En 1943 fue segundo al mando de la 1a División en ese mismo teatro de guerra y luego en Sicilia y Cerdeña. Fue enlace con las fuerzas francesas y después comandó la 4a Div. de Inf. en la playa Utah. Sufría de artritis crónica (caminaba con bastón) y deficiencias coronarias. Un mes después del desembarco en Normandía murió de un ataque al corazón.
